Armando Bobo was the frequently used stage name of stand-up comedian Morri Hartgraves.  Hartgraves also performed under other stage names such as Red Meat Robinson and Street Man the Homeless Wonder. In the 1980s Hartgraves was a mediocre comedian during a time when comedy really sucked.  The summer before his senior year of high school Hartgraves began dating a 19 year old coed on the student activities committee at Angelo State University.   This young woman had flunked out of the University of Texas at Austin.  Having a strong penchant for the night life, this young woman began booking Hartgraves into a weird assortment of comedy venues.  Having a late summer birthday, Hartgraves spent his entire senior year of high school as a 17 year old getting paid to play low end comedy clubs, bars, and D2 colleges.  Following high school graduation, Hartgraves began performing comedy with stints in major Texas cities and Midwestern cities.  Morri Hartgraves was the winner of the 1984 Best New Standup Comedian in Texas competition.  Hartgraves then went on to win first place in the 1984 Best New Standup Comedian in the Southwest competiition.   Morri Hartgraves would go on to win fourth place in the 1984 Best New Standup Comedian in North America competition held in Chicago which featured the brightest young comedians from the United States and Canada.  Hartgraves then proceeded to branch out performing in Southern U.S. venues.  Eventually Morri Hartgraves began playing Pacific Northwest and California venues.  Ultimately performing during the 1980s in popular Los Angeles and New York comedy clubs such as the Comedy Store, the Ice House, the Laugh Factory, Catch a Rising Star, Caroline’s , and various locations of The Improv.  Hartgraves had a fondness for controversial characters and material. Morri Hartgraves was known for thought provoking routines that ran adrift in the undercurrent of society. During the early to mid-80s, some of Hartgraves most popular comedy bits were “AYDS the weight reducing candy,” “the insecure Christ child,” “shopping for rehab,” “white privileged, but underprivileged,” “teen assisted suicide,” “Jihad in the frozen food aisle” “brown nosing is the light and the way,” “the absinthe in Absorbine Junior,” “sperm in a stupor,” “juicing gave me hpv,” “nihilistic square dance,” “teenager aspiring to be in Hospice,” “Alzheimers winter dance party,” “Disco BBQ,” “black hoodie for a funeral,” “take a homeless person to work,” “memoir or suicide note," "fry cooks on parole," "remedial dissidents," "big moments for small minds."
